The Northbrook Park District and Congregation Beth Shalom are excited to announce their collaboration in offering a Chanukah-themed event to celebrate together this holiday season. “Sing, Spin and Shine” takes place from 2pm-3:30pm on Sunday, December 10 at the Northbrook Leisure Center and will be led jointly by staff from the park district and the congregation in the communal spirit of the holidays.
December is all about getting ready for the holidays, but don’t forget to plan for the New Year by registering for the host of programs and activities offered by the Northbrook Park District in winter and spring. Registration opens at 9am on November 29 for residents, and at 9am on December 6 for non-residents.
Breting’s enthusiasm and dedication earned him the park district’s 2023 Coach of the Year award. The park district couldn’t offer its high-quality programming without volunteer coaches like Breting, Recreation Supervisor Cameron Edelman said. A real estate developer, Breting has coached primarily soccer, along with some baseball, for just over three years through the park district.
“Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” runs November 18 through December 2 at the Northbrook Theatre in the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, Northbrook. The play is especially well-suited for children ages 5 and up.
In the five years since the Northbrook Park District began offering pickleball, the program has grown tremendously in the wake of the sport’s boom in popularity, both locally and across the country. To meet this steadily growing demand, the park district is expanding its indoor and outdoor pickleball offerings.
Andy Kaufman’s younger sister, Carol Kaufman Kerman, will tell stories and anecdotes about her brother, their upbringing in New York, and what he was like in private during a Storytelling Luncheon on November 8 hosted by the Northbrook Park District. The event is open to anyone ages 18 and up.
Seniors and their families are invited to attend an open house next week to learn all about the engaging programs and activities offered by the Northbrook Park District’s Senior Center. The Senior Showcase will take place from 9:30-11:30am on Friday, November 3 at the Senior Center, which is located inside the Leisure Center at 3323 Walters Ave.
The Northbrook Park District is excited to welcome back another theater production of “Wake Up, Brother Bear!” which will again delight the little ones. The interactive performance will have audiences watch a waterfall melt, meet a butterfly, chase an elusive fish and skate on an icy pond. Children are invited to join the action to help create an enchanting experience during the 40-minute production with no intermission.
For the 24th consecutive year, the Northbrook Park District received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. Receiving the award annually since 2000 is a testament to the park district’s finance department’s unwavering commitment to transparency, excellence and fiscal responsibility.
The park district currently has two open positions in its facilities department: part-ice resurfacer driver and part-time custodian. The positions come with benefits including free access to the park district’s recreation and fitness programs, pools and dog park.
