For our adults 55+, the friendly and welcoming staff at the Park District Senior Center proudly delivers a wide variety of daily activities: classes, trips, special events, tap, exercise classes, a choir, card games, computer classes, drop-in programs, holiday parties, local theater and museum trips, adventure travel and multi-day trips. The Center also provides counseling, support groups, and health and driving services.Located at the west end of the Leisure Center, this handicapped-accessible facility has its own convenient drive-up entrance and features a card room, meeting spaces and socialization areas. Members receive discounts on classes and trips, priority registration for trips and a bi-monthly newsletter. In addition, they can participate in drop-in programs at no charge. Seniors enjoy making and meeting friends, and sharing experiences in a relaxing and caring atmosphere. For more information, stop by the Senior Center or call 847·291·2988.
Note: Membership is not required to participate in programs and activities; however, a discount is offered to members.
The Senior Center also offers a broad array of services, including personal counseling, health screenings, support groups and monthly foot-care clinics by a licensed podiatrist.
Senior Center membership ($24 residents/$34 non-residents) provides a discount on programs and trips, participation in drop-in programs, and a bi-monthly newsletter. Joining the Northbrook Park District Senior Center gives members an opportunity to participate in a variety of additional programs and activities that are only available to members.
Senior Center Membership Benefits
Momentum is published six times a year and mailed to members’ homes with news and announcements about classes, special events, registration deadlines, and trips.
Join us for popular trips to the theatre, casinos and other places of interest, with convenient, secure parking and pick-up/drop-off service available from the Leisure Center. Do you love to learn, discuss, and speak about the world and what is happening? Join us Tuesdays at 1pm for an intellectual discussion and share thoughts and opinions with this wonderful group.
Join us on Fridays at 9:30am for a free discussion course on literature, art, history, music and philosophy and how they make our lives more meaningful. All readings are chosen to evoke discussion and opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth. Jerry Emer is the leader.

Under the direction of former concert pianist Evelyn Binz, the Park Larks enjoy singing and performing show tunes at senior centers, retirement homes and health centers. The co-ed group rehearses Thursdays at 9:30am and entertains from September through July. Call 847·291·2988 for more information.
Senior Drop-In Art Studio
The Art Studio is open every Thursday from noon to 3:30pm for Center members. Professional art instructor Betty Dustman can help beginners get started, and experienced artists can complete their projects in the company of others.
On weekdays between 9am and 4pm, the Gift Shop at the Senior Center offers handcrafted items for sale, designed and created by Senior Center members. Gifts are suitable for infants, children and adults and may include blankets, aprons, flower arrangements and holiday decorations.
Sewing and Crafts Club
The Sewing and Crafts Club meets Mondays from 10am to 2pm. Group and individual projects, led by Janet Bradey bring members together to share a common interest in the arts. Bring your lunch and bring a friend!
Knitting and Crocheting
On Wednesday mornings, knitting and crocheting classes are held from 10am until noon. Instructor Hanc Weiner can teach you to knit, crochet or help you choose or complete a project. Our knitters donate their services to the Linus Program, Mercy Home and schools in Wheeling. The instruction is free for Senior Center members.
Drop-In Card Games
Center members are welcome to enjoy drop-in games of Bridge, Duplicate Bridge, Canasta, Pinochle, Texas Hold 'Em, Co-Ed Poker, Men’s Poker, Mahjong, Gin Rummy and Bunco.
Blood Pressure Screening
Free blood pressure screening is offered at the Senior Center. Call 847·291·2988 for dates and times.
Social worker Tess Torvik, M.S.W., from the North Shore Senior Center, provides free social services on Tuesdays at 1pm (1st & 3rd Tuesday of every month) by appointment. Services include: individual and group counseling, assistance in applying for entitlements and programs, and referrals for services, such as caregiver support, dementia care, home-delivered meals and senior housing. Members can arrange a meeting by calling the Senior Center or calling Tess at 847·784·6000.
Dr. Mark Berman visits the Center the second Wednesday of every month to provide simple nail trimmings and treat minor foot problems. Call 847·291·2988 to make an appointment. Dr. Berman can accept Medicare at his office but not at the Senior Center.
