Full-Time Opportunities
Leisure Center Manager The Northbrook Park District’s mission is to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship. We are seeking an energetic, motivated and team-oriented professional to oversee all operations at the Leisure Center, a 43,000 square foot community center that provides a wide variety of recreation programming for all ages. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years experience in recreation programming management required. Prior experience supervising full-time staff required. Professional Certification is highly desirable but not required. Proven ability to effectively multi-task within a fast paced environment is critical to selection. Candidate must also possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; must be flexible and adaptable, with excellent team-building and customer service capabilities. Duties and Responsibilities: This position plans, directs and evaluates operations at the District’s Leisure Center including facility maintenance, repairs, scheduling and programming. Programs include before and after care, preschool, seniors, summer camps, fitness, visual arts, outdoor education, general recreation and several large-scale family special events. Hire, trains, supervises and evaluates seven full-time staff (year-round) and over 150 part-time staff (summer). Adult Hockey Scorekeeper The Northbrook Park District’s mission is to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship. We are seeking a well organized, customer service and team-oriented person to work with the public. Qualifications: Must have knowledge of ice hockey and a good understanding of the game for scoring purposes. Must be ability to run a scoreboard time clock. Has the ability to keep track of multiple penalties during the course of the game. Must be available to work late at night. Duties/Responsibilities: Will get score sheets and player sign-in sheets ready for games. Keeps close track of the game and fills in the score sheet with all necessary information. Documents anything out of the ordinary that happens in the game in the appropriate spaces on the game score sheet. Open Hockey Facilitator The Northbrook Park District’s mission is to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship. We are seeking a well organized, customer service and team-oriented person to work with the public. Qualifications: Must have some knowledge of ice hockey. Have some knowledge of running a scoreboard clock. Must have the ability to communicate with the public, and react to problems that may arise. Duties/Responsibilities: Make sure that players entering the ice have paid their admission by checking hand stamps. Help split up players in this drop-in program into two teams. Run the scoreboard clock making sure that player lines change every 2 minutes insuring that everyone gets an equal amount of playing time. Theatre: Assistant Costumer Qualifications: Degree in Costuming. Evidence of professional costume design expertise. Stitching and costume construction skills. Knowledge of makeup and hair dressing desirable. Interest in Children’s Theatre. Strong communication skills; Excellent organizational/time management skills; Commitment to collegiality; Commitment to working with both professional adult actors and child performers. Candidate must also possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; must be accommodating and adaptable, with excellent team-building and customer service capabilities. Duties and Responsibilities: This position will assist the Resident Costumer executing designs, cutting, stitching, measuring and the like. This is a part-time, summer position that may expand to a year-round position for the right candidate. Must be available to work weekdays with occasional Saturday and Sundays during performances. Site Directors The Northbrook Park District seeks a motivated, creative and experienced Site Directors for the 2012 Summer Camp program. Qualifications: 2+ years experience working with children is required. College degree (or comparable experience in working with people and programs) in education, recreation or related field is highly desirable. Applicant must be available M-F, 8am-3:30pm June 18-August 10. Applicant must be able to attend training dates prior to the start of the camp program (May 22, May 29, June 5 and June 12-14). Duties & Responsibilities: Directors are responsible for supervising the daily operations of his/her assigned camp site. Directors and/or Co-Directors will plan and implement a variety of activities to provide quality recreational camp experiences for children. The Directors and/or Co-Directors are also responsible for leading and directing assigned camp counselors and communicating with parents on a regular basis. Stage Directors, Choreographers and Music Directors The Northbrook Park District’s mission is to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship. We are seeking an energetic, motivated and team-oriented worker for a full-time position at the Leisure Center. Qualifications: Previous experience as a stage director, choreographer and/or musical director and a degree in area of specialization is required. Prior experience working with children in a drama workshop setting is desired. Must also possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; must be flexible and adaptable, with excellent team-building and customer service capabilities. Duties and Responsibilities: These positions will assist in teaching daily music, dance and drama classes as well as rehearse participants in their final age-appropriate productions for public presentation. There are three separate Workshops: Babes On Broadway, Creative Drama and Theatre Arts.
Workshop dates are: Babes On Broadway-June 18-July 14 (Session I) and July 16-August 11 (Session II); Creative Drama=June 25-July 22 (Session I) and July 23-August 19; Theatre Arts-June 25-July 22 (Session I) and July 23-August 19 (Session II). There is additional weekend and evening duties during the final presentations which take place the last week of each Workshop. Customer Service Representative The Northbrook Park District’s mission is to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship. We are seeking a qualified individual to act as a Customer Service Representative for the Performing Arts Office. Qualifications: A high school degree (or equivalent) is required. Knowledge of general office practices and methods as well as attention-to-detail is needed. It requires public relations experience. The position requires working knowledge of computers. Box Office experience at a legitimate theatre is helpful but not required. Duties and Responsibilities: Under direct supervision of the Performing Arts Office Supervisor, the Customer Service Representative aids and answers inquiries from the telephone and registration window. Enters data into computer, accurately handles all transactions, performs all other office functions, including filing, typing, etc. Provides information and assistance on programs and services offered to the public, receives and processes registration. Sells tickets to productions utilizing BOW; an electronic, computerized ticketing system. This position also offers support to management staff and program supervisors. Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker The Northbrook Park District’s mission is to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and stewardship. We are seeking a positive and motivated worker for a seasonal position with the Parks Department. Qualifications: Must have experience working in a fast-paced environment. Experience in landscaping and/or grounds maintenance preferred. Candidates must possess strong customer service skills and an ability to operate equipment and tools proficiently. Must be available to work various daytime shifts, evening and weekends. Duties and Responsibilities: Approximately 40 hours per week. The position is responsible for general Park maintenance including; landscaping, general facility maintenance or custodial tasks. This position performs routine landscape work. Required to perform ground maintenance activities as well such as raking, weeding, mowing, pruning, planting, cultivating and watering: grass, trees, flowers and shrubs.
